Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my commitment to serving our community. As Sheriff, my focus has always been clear: keeping our community safe through strong, accountable law enforcement while never losing sight of the people we serve. With decades of experience in law enforcement and public service, I believe leadership means being present, listening, and working alongside our community to build trust and reduce crime. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together in my first term, and I look forward to continuing this work with integrity, transparency, and purpose.

30+ YEARS
Over 30 years of law enforcement service with the New Albany Police Department, serving in a wide range of roles and retiring as a Merit Captain.
RUNNING
An avid runner, including participation in the Boston Marathon, and a dedicated coach who believes in discipline, teamwork, and leading by example.
12 YEARS
Served 12 years as County Commissioner, 6 years as President, bringing proven leadership, fiscal responsibility, and a commitment to public service.
GRADUATE
Graduate of Indiana State University and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, with a strong foundation in leadership and public safety.

In November 2022, Floyd County elected Steve Bush as Sheriff, placing their trust in a leader committed to faith, service, and public safety. Guided by the values of God, Family, Community, and Country, Sheriff Bush has worked to strengthen the Sheriff’s Office while building a safer, more unified county. From launching the Change While Incarcerated initiative and hosting faith-based REC (Residents Encounter Christ), to equipping deputies with life-saving tools like Narcan and AEDs, his leadership reflects both accountability and compassion.
During his first term, Sheriff Bush restructured command leadership, expanded staffing across police, corrections, and dispatch, restarted the Special Investigations Unit, and created a full-time Crime Analysis position to enhance proactive policing. He has invested in leadership development within the department while strengthening community relationships through outreach events and youth programs. Recognized as Floyd County’s Best Politician (2025–2026) by the New Albany News & Tribune, Sheriff Bush is seeking re-election in 2026 to continue building a safe, strong Floyd County rooted in the values that matter most.
